RESET
Reset explores the tension between inspiration and overwhelm. Pinterest and Instagram are my primary sources of visual research and inspiration. However, I’m often overwhelmed by the sheer number of styles and ideas, and struggle to differentiate my work from what I’ve seen online. This frequently results in creative paralysis.
To reset, I’ve gone back to the basic motions of putting paint on paper. This led me to playing with Rorschach-style inkblots like I used to make as a kid. A number of acrylic paint blots later and I have a colourful selection of spontaneous designs to transform into large-scale textile artworks. This process has quieted the noise and overwhelm from the research/concept development stage of my art-making process, and has rekindled the joy of making. This on-going body of work is a selection of my favourite inkblot experiments.
